The revised F-gas regulations comes into force on 1 January 2015.

R404A (GWP 3922) is the most widely used gas in around the world in marine refrigeration systems. The use of R404A will be impacted by the legislation measures detailed above. Therefore a solution is needed to replace this refrigerant while continuing to deliver the required cooling reliably and efficiently.

The use of R404A will be phased out rapidly both in new and existing equipment, it will be required to find a suitable alternative that can match its performance.

The commercially available alternatives to R404A suitable for existing equipment are R407F and R407C. R407F is preferred solution rather than R407C as R407F can offer better cooling capacity with minimum modification works compared with R407C.

HI AIR Korea has recently completed the retrofit of R404A by R407F for “M/V MSC TERESA” for ten days during her voyage. This retrofit system covers Air conditioning system, Provision refrigeration System and Packaged A/C System.
